Default What's the biggest mistake that stock market investors make?

No single mistake leads to poor returns. A consistent pattern of mistakes does.

And a consistent pattern of mistakes indicates larger problems. Poor returns and losing money are just symptoms.

Having said that, I believe poor performance can usually be attributed to these four big root problems:

Lack of hard work: without hard work, your only hope is to get lucky
Lack of process: until you have a process, you don’t know what you are doing
Unrealistic expectations: without realistic expectations, you are set up to over-reach
Complacency: being complacent leads to getting punched in the face
On a daily basis, these problems transpire as tangible symptoms that mathematically eat away at returns.

Over the long-term, low-cost index funds are typically upper second-quartile performers, or better than 65-75% of actively managed funds.

Default PRE BUDGET ANALYSIS-2017

==>The market is losing its stamina and desperately in search of a growth story.
==>So far this year, the NIFTY 50 has been flat despite the volatility, which some might even say is “a positive” considering the global anaemic growth.
==>Investors in India and abroad have been grappling with changing laws on equity investors.
==>Amid the uncertain environment, there are possibilities of an increase in capital gains tax on equities.
==>It is to see whether Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will announce tax measures in favour of investors or not in the Upcoming Union Budget 2017.
==>A possible resolution of the tax issues in favour of investors this time around may drive outperformance in Indian equities after the Budget. If not resolved favourably, investor sentiment will be impacted negatively,
==>Tightening tax treaties will have a negative impact on Indian markets . In May 2016, the government moved to tighten the India-Mauritius tax treaty, after which foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) ended up paying at the same short-term gains tax rate of 15% on Indian equities. Similar changes were made to the tax treaties with Cyprus and Singapore by the end of 2016.

Default Biggest mistake that stock market investors make!

A lot of people also buy on the dip, and the stock keeps dropping. Maybe it will recover eventually, but by that time you have missed out on incalculable opportunities. Sometimes the dip is justified.

Default Beware . Only a fool will go on buying stocks in September

if you are an investor, soak all of this in, because it will soon be nothing but a memory. The stock market is due for a significant correction—defined as a greater than 10% decline in stock prices—and stock returns in the next several years will be very pedestrian if they increase at all.

It’s not that the stock market is a bubble ready to burst. Bubbles are created by speculation, when investors buy a stock simply because its price has risen strongly in the recent past, and therefore conclude it will rise strongly in the foreseeable future. This clearly characterized the tech bubble that inflated around Y2K. Investors piled into the stocks of dot-com companies, many without even understanding what the Internet was. Most of the companies weren’t making any money, and few had business models that seemed likely to ever generate profits. That bubble was also fueled by margin debt, as investors borrowed aggressively against their stock holdings to purchase even more stocks.

Many people only invest in the stock market with the hope of doubling their money. For better return in the market, it is important to build a strong trading plan. Most of the trader fail in investment due to lack of good knowledge of the market. There are many investors who do not have much idea on how and where to invest in the market.

I guess one main risk in this field is that there is no margin for error. You are not playing with fake money that you could just throw around here and there.
A beginner's mistake can cost you dearly.
One of the major mistakes that i have seen among rookies is that they analyse past data and make a decision then and there. It is absolutely necessary to see the kind of trend the company is following along with the potential market of the company.
It is important to see what kind of stocks are they trading too.

Getting in debt I guess. At least for me it became a huge problem because I wasn't able to pay the moneyback in time and at first I thought that it will find and we will figure out the solution with my creditor but turned out that he doesn't want to bother and at some point he just hired this debt collection agency and I had to deal with them.
