For those who are familiar with the LON exchange, I've got a request for you.
Would you please list your TOP THREE LON-exchange picks for LONG TERM capital growth? (Target: 20 years) and perhaps a quick Peter Lynch style "What's their story?" -Must be well capitalized -Must have growth potential -Cannot have history of significant dilution -Less than 50% institutional ownership preferred -Current dividend preferred -Low volatility preferred ( I'm asking for selfish reasons: I want to populate my retirement account with some StockRants wisdom, and the U.K. is next on my list of -must buy- geographies....but, I'm sure other members would appreciate your insight as well. ) Thanks in advance. Cheers,

Interesting question, and one that fell very much into my line of enquiry.
I would say that the UK is going to face a hell of a tough time in the long run (20-30y). In my estimation, most sectors are going to be battered. Resilience will be shown by only a few equities. My picks would be: 1. BP : A highly stable oil major with div yields fluctuating from 5.5-8%. Oil prices will go up in the future, so BP should benefit from this. The only challenge I see is if an oppressive left-wing tax regime comes in to impose windfall taxes on the company. 2. Cadburys : It's been around for eons, and will continue to do so. Cadburys has a solid brand reputation throughout the world, and as the emerging markets increase their disposable incomes, they will look to buy western imported chocolate (Western brands are highly desirable in Asia). 3. Liberty International : Simply put, "Buy land... they stopped making it a long time ago". Over a shorter period (5-10y), I would invest in vodafone, centrica and rexam. Cheers, Rhetor |
