I am planning to get an iphone to use with BMO Investorline for stocks. I dont have access to wifi so will use Rogers' 3gs network.
Assuming that I need to stream the stock quotes all day and access BMO investorline a couple of times a day, How much bandwidth is likely to be used for streaming stock quotes on monthly basis? Any estimates, anyone? |

Interesting question...I don't have BMO but tell us which app you're accessing quotes on your iphone with? Most of them that I know of only work with large brokers like Ameritrade, or Think or Swim. So getting your BMO datafeed to work with other apps might be difficult. I did a quick Google search and BMO doesn't seem to work with QuoteTracker either.

I will actually use the Stocks app built in the iphone itself. It has a 20 min delay but is fine for me. I want to add about stocks to my list to get the feed and will occasionally enter investorline. Not sure whether i need less than a GB or 5 GBs |

Bandwidth for even streaming real-time quotes in an app like QuoteTracker should be fine over 3G. I think the minimum you would want to roll with is 50kb/sec and you should be well over that.
Oh yeah that app on the iphone uses barely any bandwidth at all. NO worries there, you could use it all day constantly and not use 1mb. I don't know what you other guys are using for iPhone quotes but I'm digging the free Bloomberg app. Really like this one because it grabs pretty much any ticker I throw at it, including Canada. Also if you flip the phone on its side while looking at a quote it will revert to a widescreen chart view.
