Lightbulb NASDAQ:NVDA - $NVDA NVIDIA Corp.

NVDA - NVIDIA Corporation: NASDAQ:NVDA quotes & news - Google Finance

This is a screaming buy in around $10.xx. Not much time here to make a great case but here are some points to consider:
  • Makes components for nearly every PC/Mac on Earth aside from those still using Intel graphics processors (less and less). Demand is increasing heavily in India, China.
  • Tegra2 = best mobile chipset available now.
  • Tablets running Android are getting more and more interesting: ICD Nvidia Tegra 2 Tablet Beats iPad Hands Down
  • Revenue/Net Income increasing quarter on quarter.
  • Assets: 3,803.03m vs Liabilities: 942.38m
  • Cash rich: 447.26m
  • The PPS is way beaten down and this stock is clearly oversold.
Target is $16 by 4Q.

Getting cheap again for no reason other than the every sector is getting pwned.

Below is worth mentioning...

Sony PSP2 further delayed by Nvidia Tegra 2 issues

Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor is known for its power consumption issues - it’s the reason the Notion Ink Adam, and countless other products have been delayed this year. Now, a leak by an Nvidia engineer claims that the Tegra 2 is once again the reason for a product delay, and this time it’s the Sony PSP2.

The PSP2 has been expected for a while now, but no official Sony comments have been made about just when it is due. Apparently, Sony is quite unhappy with Nvidia for not delivering on its promised power budget or squeezing in within an acceptable 5% margin. Instead, according to the Nvidia engineer, the Tegra 2 is more than 20% over budget. There go the rumours of a PSP2 Sony Ericsson phone...

Sony's possible way out is unknown - will it wait for a custom Tegra 2 to be made that meets its PSP2 requirements, or will it downgrade the PSP2’s specifications to allow for a decent battery life? Whatever the decision, the PSP2’s launch looks like it will happen no sooner than CES 2011, with its release shortly after.

Awesome opportunity to load up on NVDA (and others) with their lowered guidance, and shun by Apple in their new desktop rollout. Classic overreaction IMO...It's worth pointing out that it is not unusual for Apple to change the graphic cards in their desktops mid stream in a product cycle.

Nvidia Warning, Demand-Slowdown Worries Weigh On Chip Sector - WSJ.com

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Nvidia Corp.'s (NVDA) warning about weak second-quarter revenue exacerbated investors' worries about a slowing consumer personal-computer market and drove down shares of other chip makers in Thursday's trading.

Nvidia late Wednesday lowered its second-quarter revenue estimates due to weak consumer spending that weighed on sales of its flagship graphics-processing chips. Its shares recently dropped 9.6% to $9.16, down 12% over the past three months.

The chip maker, which specializes in chips that help computers render moving images more effectively, blamed its lowered expectations on increases in the cost of memory and economic weakness in the European and Chinese markets. Some customers are moving to lower-cost graphics chips, which eats into the company's revenue, or buying computers with less-expensive products from competitors.

Investors have been worried that PC sales could slow in the second half of the year as consumers show caution due to uncertain macroeconomic conditions and headwinds in Europe.

Still, the warning from Nvidia contrasts sharply with better-than-expected results from Intel Corp. (INTC) and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD). Intel's results, which got a boost from increased business spending, set the bar high for other chip makers, and few companies have been able to match its surprisingly robust numbers.

In recent trading, the iShares S&P North American Technology-Semiconductor Index Fund declined 3.1%, outpacing declines in the broader market and for other tech stocks in general. The S&P 500 recently was down 0.86%.

Among chip makers, Intel slid 1.9% to $20.92. AMD fell 3.8% to $7.68 in sympathy with Nvidia and as FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger cut his rating on AMD's shares to market perform from outperform.

He cited growing macroeconomic risks, reduced PC build plans and signs of PC cost-reduction efforts that may affect graphics-processing unit attach rates, among other factors.

Storage-chip maker LSI Corp. (LSI) fell 12% to $4.16 after it posted second-quarter revenue that was weaker than Wall Street expected, mirroring results of its largest customer, Seagate Technology Inc. (STX).

Other semiconductor stocks taking a hit included memory-chip maker Micron Technology Inc. (MU), which lost 4.9% to $7.84, and hard-disk drive and networking equipment chip maker Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (MRVL), which slid 3.7% to $14.81.

Wireless chip maker Atheros Communications Inc. (ATHR), which generates about a third of its revenue from the PC market, dropped 7.4% to $25.09, though analysts said the company won't be hurt by slowing PC sales as much as some other chip makers.

"I think investors' worries for Atheros are overblown at this point," Wedbush analyst Betsy Van Hees said. "Their other businesses are growing quite nicely and are compensating for any weakness they might have in their PC business."

Meanwhile, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Apurva Patel said Atheros could also be taking a hit from news out of Taiwan that competitor MediaTek Inc. (2454.TW) has been cutting chip prices in the third quarter to reduce its inventory.

While many companies have posted strong results, he added, investors are more concerned about macroeconomic issues and are bearish about the consumer environment--worries unlikely to ebb until macro conditions show marked improvement.

I hope I am not posting old news, but this looks not that great, It mentions that AMD owner of ATI has overtaken the lead in the market. It also costs less, and it had a great quarter compared to NVIDIA. The interesting part is considering everything they still were up 43 cents on friday, makes you wonder!

Read: NVIDIA Posts Big Loss In Q2 [Graphics Giant Loses $141 Last Quarter, Led By Losses In Their Consumer Business] » TFTS – Technology, Gadgets & Curiosities

Some bad news for NVIDIA – while quite a few other tech companies had a very good Q2 2010, Big Green didn’t. NVIDIA posted a $141 million net loss for Q2 2010. Things are going from bad to worse for the graphics giant, who posted a $105 million net loss in Q1 2010.

NVIDIA cites a decrease market demand for graphics cards as leading to inventory write-offs, which affected their bottom line. NVIDIA is currently pushing their GeForce 400 series in the consumer space. As I’m sure many of our readers know – it was hotly anticipated amongst the enthusiast community.
However, some are debating whether there really is a slowdown in demand for graphics cards. AMD, owner of ATI – NVIDIA’s biggest rival in the card space, recently posted a great quarter. And, ATI recently was named as the graphics card of choice in several new iMac redesigns. And ATI took a 51% lead in the graphics market game from NVIDIA.
So, all of that may be contributing to why NVIDIA has been suffering a poor year. NVIDIA also cited a greater shift in Europe and China to PCs built in integrated graphics – of course Intel wins there. Don’t worry about NVIDIA though.
The company is attempting to enter new markets with their ION and TEGRA products, which should help them compete in the low-end. Likewise, their enterprise graphics cards are often compared favorably to similar offerings from ATI.
NVIDIA does expect that wider margins in Q3 2010.

Just a quick update...Sold NVDA last week at just under $12. Will look for more if/when it gets cheap again.

Also noticed AMD cut guidance recently (see here). Earnings out October 14th for AMD.

Default Amazing News for NVDA

I traded in and out of this and managed to miss out on the majority of this run.

Today INTC announced plans to pay NVDA $1.5b in restitution over 5 years for a major lawsuit: http://www.businesswire.com/news/hom...reement-NVIDIA

"Under the transaction, Intel receives a license to NVIDIA’s patents subject to the terms of the agreement. NVIDIA receives a license to Intel’s patents subject to the terms of the agreement, including that x86 and certain other products are not licensed to NVIDIA under the agreement. Intel and NVIDIA have also exchanged broad releases for all legal claims, including any claims of breach of their previous license agreement. Intel will pay NVIDIA $1.5 billion over the next 5 years. This obligation will be recognized as a liability totaling approximately $1.4 billion, on a discounted basis. Intel recognized an expense of $100 million in the fourth-quarter of 2010, classified as “marketing, general and administrative.” The remaining amount, approximately $1.3 billion, will be recognized as an intangible asset in the first quarter of 2011 and will be amortized into cost of sales over future periods. With the exception of one agreement term that is confidential, the agreement will be made available in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and can be viewed at www.intel.com/pressroom/legal."

NVDA essentially jumped $10 in like 3 months from its low around (I think $8). Big settlement with INTC. Why doesn't INTC just buy NVDA at this point? As an INTC shareholder I am not happy that INTC appears to have no strategy to enter the Internet Tsunami market. Big quarter on thursday for INTC.
