Casino Earnings This Week

Big week in the gaming sector, here's what's on tap:

5-4 (Monday): MGM reports after hours

5-5 (Tuesday): WYNN reports before the bell

5-5 (Tuesday): LVS reports after hours

5-6 (Wednesday): BYD reports before the bell

Interesting that both MGM and LVS only announced within the last week that they would be releasing earnings news this coming week.

Pure Speculation:

I wouldn't have expected the big 3 (WYNN, LVS, MGM) to have set up the announcement of earnings in such close chronological order if they all expect to release bad earnings numbers. If that happened, they certainly realize that the entire sector would be devastated.

This might be a situation where we get moderate/bad earnings reports but good guidance from all of the casinos in an attempt to mute the effects of the bad numbers.

If the numbers are bad, but the guidance is good with each earnings report, the week might not be a disaster for this sector.

And ... in the "I have a dream" scenario ... imagine if they each release positive surprise earnings (or at least meet expectations) on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, WITH good guidance.

That would be outstanding ... unless, of course, you're short.

Should be an interesting week in this sector.

Scott, I think you are right about "pure speculation" Last year LVS reported

on 5-09-2008 and MGM on 5-12-08 and in 2007 LVS reported

on 5-10-2007 and MGM on 5-10-2007 their quarters just happen to

be reported around the same time. I think that if they got together to

plan their respective release times it would amount to what you lawyers

call collusion. I also think that it is highly unlikely that any of the casinos

report a profit. Personally I would like to see a massive loss so I can get

back into LVS around $3.00 again. (wishing)

Don't think it will get back under 4. Got in at 3.9 and been fun to watch it run. It'll be and interesting week. Thanks Scott.

Defense lawyers call it "good business sense".
