Default 1-800-DNG-DONG

hopefully you're only 'leasing' lol

I can see your ad now: Looking for some ding-dong leasing and investment portfolio structuring services? Just call after market close at 1-800-DNG-DONG

looks like the 'industry' will have to refine and or/find a new medium for its advertisement.

that's the thing about black markets: THEY EXIST. (indisputable fact) and as long as they remain unregulated (i.e. prohibited) they will generate no tax revenue, and will pose a greater risk to industry 'participants' than if the practices were brought above boards with a reasonable level of regulation.

This reminds me of a book by Peter McWilliams: Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do : The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in Our Free Country

note: I'm NOT advocating prostitution or any other vice, I'm simply advocating an individuals right to do what they want with their own mind, body and money. (i.e. the sanctity of private property; your liberty ends where mine begins -or- mind your own damn business )

I'm with you on this. I feel in regards consensual crimes the only position the government should partake in is the regulation of its availability, and the distribution of accurate and needed information. Examples: keeping the distribution of drugs and prostitution away from schools, play parks (etc), and insuring the public knows the probable effects of certain drugs (as with cigarettes, alcohol) and the health conditions of prostitutes (as with porn stars via industry testing).

Default a diffferent take on things

I am not sure if I understand the post and how it relates to the stock market, but the title is “catchy” and I thought I would respond. I agree with Mac when he says “I'm NOT advocating prostitution or any other vice, I'm simply advocating an individuals right to do what they want with their own mind, body and money. (i.e. the sanctity of private property; your liberty ends where mine begins -or- mind your own damn business.” I think though that the moderation of Craig’s List is not so much concerned with infringing on rights as it is protecting people who use the service As one example- The last week of April was full of news circulating in the media about Philip Markoff- the suspected “Craig’s List Killer” I have not been following developments in that story- but when something like that happens it compromises the integrity of the service and the safety of the users. I think this is Craig’s List response to crack down on sex crimes – and although they are absolutely not at fault for what happens in their forums- they are assuming some responsibility. I think that website owners have the right to control the content that they offer- whether or not it seems fair to do so. If it could save someone’s life, prevent a rape, or stop a pedophile/ I am less concerned about individual freedoms being trampled on and more concerned with safety. How do I know that the latest post soliciting an erotic service was actually submitted by a prostitute? It could be a member of law enforcement posing as a prostitute. If there is a way to confirm that the ad is legit- how to you know that it won’t be a sexual predator that decides to respond? The truth is, because the internet is so anonymous, no one ever knows who is posting there.
It may seem like a radical infringement on liberties to crack down on Craig’s List- but if you think this is bad- I think the world of crackdowns on the web is just getting started. Now days it only takes a handful of abusers to ruin things for everyone else.

Prentiss: I knew we could find some common ground! lol

This is Rants and Blather....anything goes. (excluding the offensive, of course)

I think that Craigs List was feeling intense political pressure to clamp down on what kind of posts they allow...for FEAR of legal liability suits against them...and definitely in this day and age of million-dollar hot coffee lawsuits, they probably made the prudent decision. They've been virtually demonized by the talking heads, insofar as pimps can be demonized...

Personally, I'd rather see prostitution legalized and regulated/administered by hospitals. ( "Do no harm" ) That would put an end to the victimization and spread of disease that currently results from the black market. And, Prentiss could probably get more side work. lol

officials were just looking to regulate that aspect of craigslist, and now they finally have a reason. thanks CL killer. i find it amazing how we overreact to things such as this. i mean it is horrific, but i dont think it justifiable to do really do anything to CL.

I've never understood the whole legality argument with prostitution anyway.

Why should it be illegal to sell what you can give away for free? Regulate, tax and profit on it. It's the American way.

Recently on my local news there was a story about a woman who was meeting someone about a car from an ad on CL was robbed by the person who placed the ad.

It happens already.
