Posting Basics
For more details on posting on this forum you should first check
the posting FAQ page.
Note: Before posting a stock tip
ALWAYS ensure there is not already a thread started on your stock. Do this via the search feature at the top of the forum.
Posting stock picks on StockRants.com is highly recommended. By posting stock picks you will have the opportunity to earn Reputation points, and eventually gain access to our
private forums and features.
These posts can vary from basic beginner investor questions like "
What do you think of ABC Stock?" to the seasoned Uber-Investor "
I believe XYZ Company is at their 52-week low and we need to jump in because...".
To begin your post, be sure you are in the Stock Picks forum and click on the
New Thread button.
Next select your
Prefix and
Title for your stock post. The prefix will allow other users to identify what kind of thread you developed. Prefixes also allow users to easily
search for what type of stock pick they are interested in.
Your
Title for a stock pick should be formed like: Ticker - Company Name. Ex:
MSFT - Microsoft Corporation. For other threads choose a descriptive title, something a searcher might use to find your thread.
Fill in the main body of the post with your question or information about the stock. Use emoticons (happy face/bull/bear/cash icons) to spice up your post if needed.
Always, spell check your posts and use proper English and grammar. if you're using Firefox it should underline spelling mistakes, so their really is no excuse anymore for these types of errors. Your fellow forum buddies will thank you for it.
Always try to fill in the
Tags line with the stock tickers you have mentioned in your post. Again this makes it especially useful for users to drill down and actually find your post via the search functionality, and also the
Ticker Cloud on the forum home page. Try to use CAPS for your tickers like: LVS rather than lvs.
Trackbacks are used to facilitate communication between posts and blogs. If you mention a particular news article or website in your post, please enter its URL here.
And finally choose an icon for the post.
Embed Popup Stock Quotes into your Posts
When making a tip you can embed a small popup stock chart in your post.
You will see a button in the Advanced Post editor
This will enable you to easily enclose a ticker in
[stock] tags. Ticker symbols enclosed in [stock] tags will display a tiny AJAX'ed stock quote popup. You
MUST use the
Yahoo Finance version of the ticker for this to work.
Examples:
AAPL,
MSFT,
^FTSE,
^DJI
Embed Wikinvest Stock Charts into your Posts
You will see a button in the Advanced Post editor
This will enable you to easily enclose a ticker in
[chart] tags. Highlight the ticker symbol (ie: INTC) and click the chart button. That's it! Ticker symbols enclosed in [chart] tags will automagically display the stock charts as soon as you submit your thread/post.
Also note that you can annotate your charts as you can see below with the colored shapes. Click
Annotate in the chart for that.
Example:
Including a Table of Data
You will see a button in the Advanced Post editor
Building a table is fairly straight forward. See the code blow.
...Will result in:
| head col1 | head col2 | head col3 |
|---|
| row1 col1 | row1 col2 | row1 col3 |
| row2 col1 | row2 col2 | row2 col3 |
