RBC Direct Investing (Canada) - New commissions starting Dec 2011
- $28.95 / trade unless you have $50k or more - $50,000 or more in household assets = $9.95 / trade - 150 or more trades per quarter = $6.95 / trade - Options $6.95 or $9.95 depending on your qualifications above, plus $1.25 per contract. Support is very good I find with RBC but the web order tool is really lacking. orders are filled very fast and no complaints from me. |

I think Optionshouse are the best broker for beginners. I have both an Optionshouse and Interactive Brokers account. IB are much a little bit cheaper, but the Optionshouse platform is much more user friendly. They have loads of tools available as well, I particularly like the P&L calculator which allows you to evaluate your trades based on different inputs for volatility and time to expiry.

Update: The best online brokers page has been updated for 2013. We think this represents a great list of the best stock brokers available.
We also have published a new TD Ameritrade review including details on their aquisition of ThinkorSwim and release of Mobile Trader for iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Android. Hope this helps those of you still looking for the best broker.
