Default Possible EMEA Go Ahead: TiGenix

As promised to Vic, one of the most promising stocks of our Bad Boy Belgian Index

TiGenix is a Belgian company specialised in Cartilage injuries. At this moment they have one product ready: ChondroCelect, which is expected to gain EMEA approval for the whole EU market in the first half of 2009.

In November, the EMEA asked more information regarding the treatment, and TiGenix is full of confidence they'll receive the Go Ahead.

What's so special about this company? They use an regenerative treatment. With minimal surgery they bring in some ChondorCelect in the knee, which starts to create new cartilage. It's just revolutionary!

At this point they are starting up a facility in the US too, waiting on FDA approval, otherwhise it would be too expensive to send new cells all around the world.

Annual market for Cartile Injuries in Europe is around 1 billion euros.

EMEA normally comes together once a month. Next scheduled meeting of the panel is may 25-27th, so I hope they get approved on that meeting.

Some facts on TiGenix:

It was a spin-off of the Leuven University (yep, my univesity, and one of the many successful companies they spinned off).

Amount of outstanding shares: 25 million
Cash in hands: 25 million (around 1 euro / share)
Amount of Employees: 78

IPO in 2007 at 5 EUR a share (it was my last FLIPO, cos it immediately surged to 7,5 EUR)

An Estimate (personal):

If their annual market is 1 billion, let's say they may catch a 20% stake in that market (which is really, really not that much), it's an annual turnover of 200M, margin of 30% is 60M in EBITDA. Or about 2,4 EUR a share. And we even don't calculate the know-how in!

It's one of the good things here in Belgium, besides chocolate and beer (Wifebeater you guys call it I believe?) and thats biotechnology. We have some very promising biotech stocks.

TiGenix moved nice up last week, from 3.70 towards 3.98 as we speak.

Sorry but they DID NOT receive an approval yet. They received two thumbs up from the EMEA advisory commission, which is also quite promissing. see: TiGenix receives positive CHMP opinion on European MAA for ChondroCelect
